One more cracking & debatable topic. Hope you all are doing good, following all the precautionary measures.
Let’s straightaway come to the topic.
Did Ab take selfish move?
Ab de Villiers, world-class batsman & a great human being had announced his retirement in May 2018. The time when cricket South Africa was going through a transition phase.Suddenly, without any prior notice, Ab announced his retirement from international cricket.
He was the backbone of South African cricket & due to his decision South African team perished for a significant amount of time. They lost many bilateral series both away & home. They paid the price for not having experienced batter in the side. Don’t forget their early & forgettable exit from a World Cup.
Don’t you guys think, had he been waited a little longer South African cricket team would have done a lot better. Unfortunately, he left them when they needed him the most. Wasn’t that selfish move?
Why Other Leagues?
He addressed the press by revealing his reason behind retirement,
” I’m surrounded by a lot of expectations from fans & country which is unbearable sometimes & I don’t think I will regret this decision”.
Ok, to some extent we can understand the reason but why he is playing other leagues like IPL, Big bash, PSL then? Does this mean these leagues are more important than playing for a country?
There are a lot of people think he plays these leagues for money. But personally, I don’t think so. Yes, he shouldn’t have left South African team in midway but still, as a cricket fan, we all don’t think that he is a money-oriented person.
Faf Duplessis on Ab de Villiers
As per sources during the time of 2019 World Cup, Ab wanted to rejoin SA team.
But despite being his best friend, Faf & team management clearly said ‘No’ which was rightly so at that point of the time. As it would be unfair to those players who tried very hard to make into South African team & also the fact that no matter how good a player you are, no playeris bigger than a country.
When Faf was asked about his personal retirement plans after a miserable performance of the team, He replied,
“at this point of time team needs me & it will be very selfish if I quit now”.
Sensible & mature decision, isn’t it?
However, as per reports, he may take retirement after World T-20 this year.
Ab de Villiers has again shown his interest in playing for South Africa, team management & South African coach already had a chat with him about this.
If he is 100% fit & joins the team a few months before the World Cup, we will consider him for the selection said the South African selectors.
Hope we will soon see him back in action.
