More often than not we have seen young players coming into international cricket finds it easy to make a debut against India.
In the recent past, we saw Kyle Jamieson debuted against India in the home series of New Zealand and gave headaches to India both with the bat and ball.
His swing with the ball, his big hitting ability batting with India cost India that series. In fact, in the ongoing World Test Championship final he took a fifer conceding just 31 runs.
But that’s not the first time we saw players newly coming into the international cricket and troubled India.
List of new coming players in international cricket who troubled India
1. Ajantha Mendis
Ajantha Mendis made his test debut against India on 23 July 2008 and in his very first series, he shattered the Indian batting lineup. Even before that, we saw in the Asia Cup final 2008 as well, he made life difficult for Indian batsmen.
However, after some time players like Virendra Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina found his antidote and since then his career never really peaked.
He became inconsistent, in and out from the team, other team players also played him well. Resulted, his career remained average.
In order to survive in international cricket, you have to reinvent yourself on a regular basis else opponents will find your weaknesses and will exploit that.
2. Mustafizur Rahman
Mustafizur Rahman made his international debut on 18 June 2015 against India and in his very first test series he got the man of the series award as he was the leader wicket taker in that series.
And that was the one and only series win for Bangladesh against India to date. That series really created a lot of hype and buzz about Mustafizur Rahman, he troubled a lot of the other international teams as well.
He is still a permanent member of the Bangladesh cricket team but his effectiveness is declined to quite a significant extent.
Who can forget the India tour of England 2018 where Sam Curran single handedly destroyed India’s chances in the series. England had won that series 4-1 which easily could have been 4-1 in India’s favour if Sam Curran wouldn’t have played those gutsy knocks.
He was almost a teenager in 2018 and the way he counter attacked Indian bowling, the way he swung the ball, the way gave his 200% for England broke India’s dream of winning a Test series in England since 2007.
4. Quinton de Kock
Remember India tour of South Africa 2013 where he had scored 3 consecutive centuries against India in 3 ODIs.
He bashed the Indian bowling lineup all over the park, Indian bowlers had no clue at all, they were dreaming to get de Kock’s wicket.
Later on, many teams spotted his weakness against off spinners and used that to quite a good extent. He struggled against the likes of Harbhajan Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin.
Though India has found few ways to stop him now but he really gave a lot of pain to Indian bowlers early on in his international career.
India really needs to find ways to stop newcomers in International cricket. Even we saw Devon Conway scoring a half century against India in the World Test Championship final which is his 3rd test only.
Not sure whether players enjoy playing against India or what but they certainly troubled India a lot in the recent past.
